Big boy

i’m fairly confident the reason everyone assumes Curiosity is about the size of a dog is because informal NASA press (and by extension, the general culture of people who care abt what NASA’s up to) talks about Curiosity like it is, in fact, an unusually smart and self-aware pet, and i think that’s beautiful.

Research Spotlight: The Door-Knocker Earring
“I’ve come to embrace these items as symbols of resistance, and believe I have a right to be taken seriously no matter what I have on. I should be able to define myself and not be put into a box because of what I’m wearing.”

The door-knocker earring is more than a piece of jewelry, but a cultural marker with deeply rooted significance for women of color. For this reason, it is one of 111 indispensable design objects included in the upcoming exhibition, “Items: Is Fashion Modern?” In a new interview from the curatorial team, 3 wearers navigate the cultural nuances and meanings of the iconic earring mo.ma/2t6GjJn

So many archaeology sites are going to be damaged :(

Now that you mention it, didnt you once talk about this on your blog? Im trying hard to remember but its been awhile..

Yeah. Herradura bulldozed the site of Huitzilapa in order to plant more agave. Huitzilapa was the first site in which archaeologists were able to excavate an unlooted shaft tomb in the Tequila Valleys, Jalisco. Even though Huitzilapa was registered and protected by INAH (there were concrete pylons marking the site boundaries), the company had the site bulldozed. While INAH was able to impose a hefty fine on Herradura, tequila had become so lucrative that it made no impact on their business. This happened in the mid 1990s.

Guess I won’t be buying any tequila after all…

Just get good stuff. Don Roberto for good bottom shelf tequila, La Cofradia if you want to pay a little bit more.

George R. Binks was a Gungan whaler and father of the infamous Jar Jar Binks. He owned a successful whaling business and often embarked on year-long voyages in Naboo’s seas, bringing his wife and son with him. After a series of mishaps brought his vessel shipwrecked due to Jar Jar’s clumsiness, Binks attempted suicide, disappointed by his child and difficult marriage.
